01
Photograph more than the front
- The complete artwork and frame
- Any signature, edition number, stamp or embossing
- The back, labels and supporting papers
- Visible fading, stains, tears or other damage
A signature or edition number is evidence to investigate, not proof of authenticity or value. A low edition number does not automatically mean a higher price. Prints, originals, reproductions and canvas editions need their own identification.
02
Compare the right artwork
Artist, title, medium, edition, size, condition and provenance can all matter. We look for relevant completed sales and explain important differences rather than borrow a price from another artwork.
See art and collections in our selling record. Those are specific completed sales, not a promise for another piece.
03
Choose a suitable selling route
An identifiable print may suit a listing where its collectors search. A rare original or uncertain attribution may need specialist advice or an auction estimate before choosing a route. We discuss the recommendation and terms with you; nothing goes to another seller without your approval.
Framed glass, size and fragility affect whether shipping is practical. Clients usually pack and ship with our label only where that route is suitable, unless another arrangement is agreed. Local selling may be the better option.
04
One valuable piece is welcome for assessment
One valuable piece can start with photo review. We assess its value, condition and practical handling, then recommend the right level of support. A larger collection may suit a free in-home walkthrough after we review the photographs, location and handling.
